Malcolm Turnbull has thrown his support behind embattled Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

Speculation has mounted the past week the communications minister would challenge for the leadership, but Turnbull rejected that in Los Angeles on Saturday.

"The prime minister has the support of all members of his government, including me," Turnbull told reporters on the red carpet at the G'Day USA Ball.

Speculation about a leadership challenge heightened the past week with Abbott granting Prince Philip a knighthood and the coalition's poor performance in the Queensland election.

The prime minister's personal approval rating is wallowing at 27 per cent, according to the Galaxy Poll published in News Corp's papers on Sunday.
