Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has congratulated Liberal candidate Andrew Hastie for his by-election win in the West Australian seat of Canning.
Announcing his new ministry on Sunday, Mr Turnbull said it is critical that his government is one for the future.
"You saw in the Canning by-election - where Andrew Hastie won so well and I congratulate Andrew on his victory .... how the Labor Party was trying to frighten the citizens of Canning back into poverty, trying to scare them about the future," Mr Turnbull said.
