Australia would prefer the United Kingdom to remain in the European Union as it helps our trade interests, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says.
But he says it's "absolutely" a decision for the British alone.
The UK will vote in a June 23 referendum on whether to remain a member of the European Union.
A vote to leave would create serious question marks over London's role as a global financial centre and its trade deals with the US and other nations.
Mr Turnbull told Sky News on Sunday that Britain's involvement in the EU helps Australia on the trade and economic fronts.
"From our point of view it is an unalloyed plus for Britain to remain in the EU, but I absolutely stress it is a matter for the British people," he said.
"Whatever judgment they make the relations between Britain and Australia will be very, very close."
