A Muslim activist group says it hopes a new ad campaign it's produced will help promote the virtues of Islam on Australian television.

The organisation MyPeace says if picked up by any of the networks, the series of commercials will be the first of their kind to be aired in Australia, and will feature historical figures such as Mahatma Gandhi talking about the Prophet Mohammad.

The same organisation has already faced criticism for a series of billboards that called Jesus a Prophet of Islam.

MyPeace founder Diaa Mohamed told Calliste Weitenberg the aim of the ads isn't to be provocative, but to foster understanding between Muslim and non-Muslim Australians.
