Tiger Woods has been mocked on Twitter and labelled a "dramatic chump" for claiming he re-inserted a bone in his wrist that "popped out" while playing the Masters.
Woods screamed in pain and shook his hand after catching a tree root with his club during his second shot off some pine straw on Augusta's ninth hole on Sunday.
"A bone kind of popped out, and a joint kind of went out of place. But I put it back in," the 14-time major champion explained afterwards.
The comment sent Twitter into a frenzy, as viewers insisted Woods' gruesome self-diagnosis was implausible.
"TIGER WOODS must have misspoken. No way to finish round if a "bone popped out in wrist and put back in". Great golfer but not a doctor," former NFL team doctor David Chao wrote.
"@TigerWoods I didn't know you were an orthopedic surgeon. I call BS on that. You did not reduce a dislocation today. Wtf?" another user, Ellen Hampton added.
Quinn Nelson simply described Woods as "a dramatic chump", while Russ Stein said the concept was "so preposterous I have to respect it".
Twitter users were also quick to jump on Woods' colourful personal past, leaving no "bone" or "root" joke untold.
"Tiger Woods said his bone popped out and he just put it back in... wasn't sure if he was talking about Augusta or this was an old interview," failed comedian wondered.
While Alex Perry joked: "Not the first time an out of place bone has got Tiger Woods in trouble *taps mic*."
Despite the injury, Woods said he was proud of his performance at Augusta National, finishing with a five-under-par 283 (equal 17th) following a two-month layoff.
