Two arrested over attack on Vic scientist

Two men are being questioned about a Melbourne nightclub attack that left a young scientist blind in one eye.

Two men have been arrested over an attack in a Melbourne nightclub that blinded a scientist.

Elliot Harvey, 26, from Rosebud, was attacked by three men inside a Brunswick nightclub on May 26, losing the sight in his right eye.

He first came in contact with the men outside the venue at 10pm when they had a brief argument.

Mr Harvey then went inside the club and a few hours later they returned and attacked him with a punch in the head.

He fell to the ground while they continued kicking him.

The group fled before police arrived.

Investigators on Thursday released CCTV footage and images of two men who they believe may be able to assist with their investigation.

By the evening, two Wonthaggi men aged 19 and 21, were arrested and are currently being interviewed.

"I don't know why they took offence to me. They said something about my haircut," Mr Harvey told reporters in Rosebud earlier on Thursday.

"It was so pointless and trivial."

Mr Harvey has undergone two operations since the attack, which has left him unable to work as an environmental scientist.

"I really enjoy my profession and I can't do it now," he told 3AW on Thursday.

"But the person I work for is an absolute legend. I still have my job, but I just can't do it."
