Queenslander Kristy Wallace and Melbourne's Alanna Smith are the only Australians still standing less than a week into the NCAA basketball tournaments.
Jakob Cornelissen, a guard for the University of Hawaii, was Australia's last hope in the college showpiece men's tournament but he never left the bench in the Rainbow Warriors' 73-60 loss to Maryland in Spokane, Washington, on Sunday.
A day earlier Sydney forward Isaac Humphries' Kentucky, one of the favourites to win the tournament, were knocked out by Indiana.
Wallace's Baylor, one of four No.1 seeds in the women's tournament, cruised through to the third round with a 84-52 win over Auburn on Sunday.
Wallace, a starter on Australia's bronze medal-winning under-19 world championship squad last year, hit a three-pointer and had four rebounds and four assists in the victory.
Baylor will play the winner of Monday's clash between Florida State and Texas A&M.
Smith had nine points, three rebounds and two blocks in Stanford's 85-58 drubbing of San Francisco.
Stanford, a fourth seed, plays 12th seed South Dakota on Monday in their second round match-up.
The other top seeds, Connecticut, Notre Dame and South Carolina, also remain alive in the women's tournament.
Melbourne 19-year-old Simmons, expected to be picked first or second in the June NBA Draft, failed to lead Louisiana State to enough wins to qualify for the men's 68-team tournament.
