Two charged over Sydney taxi assault

A man and a woman have been charged after a Sydney taxi driver suffered head injuries after he was attacked by passengers.

Two people have been detained after a Sydney taxi driver was attacked and suffered head injuries. (AAP)

Two people have been charged over the assault of a taxi driver and two men who came to his aid in Sydney's south.

The driver was knocked to the ground and assaulted by two passengers outside a convenience store in Caringbah late on Saturday night.

Police say two men, aged 18 and 19, who came out of the shop to help the driver were also attacked, with one kicked in the head.

The driver was taken to hospital with head injuries and police later arrested a man and a woman in another taxi over the incident.

The 20-year-old woman was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and three counts of assault.

The man, aged 21, was charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasions actual bodily harm, assault and destroying property.

They have both been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court via videolink on Sunday.
