Two dead after car hits tree in Melbourne

Two people have died and another has been injured after a driver lost control of his car and slammed into a tree in Melbourne's west, police say.

Two people have died and a woman has been injured after the car they were travelling in slammed into a tree in Melbourne's west.

Police say the driver, believed to be a man in his 20s, lost control of the car and hit a tree in Braybrook just after midnight on Saturday.

The driver and a female passenger, also believed to be in her 20s, died at the scene.

Another woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators have been told a white Honda was seen at the crash site before police arrived.

They've urged the occupants of that car to contact them.
