Two die in separate Vic truck collisions

Two men have died in separate crashes in Victoria, after their cars collided with trucks.

A man has died after his car collided head-on with a truck in regional Victoria.

The crash occurred just before 8am at Elingamite, in the state's west.

The car driver, a 31-year-old Cobden man, was airlifted to the Alfred Hospital with critical injuries but he later died.

The truck driver suffered only minor injuries.

It was one of two fatal smashes in Victoria involving a truck and car on Thursday.

Another man died after his car and a sheep truck crashed at Brewster, also in the west, about 11.30am.

The truck driver was taken to the Ballarat Base Hospital for observation, while about 20 sheep were also killed in the crash.

Victoria's provisional 2015 road toll stands at 13, compared with eight at the same time last year.
