Two companies have been given permits to operate electric scooters across the Adelaide CBD.
The Adelaide City Council says Beam and Ride will begin a six-month trial next week.
A third company, Lime, operated e-scooters across Adelaide in a similar trial from February to April but was unsuccessful in bidding for the new permits.
Lime must now remove its scooters from the city's streets.
The council's operations director Beth Davidson-Park said the second trial would end in mid-October with the outcome to inform future permanent regulations for e-scooters.
"The first trial clearly showed e-scooters are a convenient form of transport with more than 140,000 trips recorded and we're confident that they will continue to be popular as Beam and Ride commence operations next week," Ms Davidson-Park said.
The scooters are GPS tracked and operate with a smartphone app.
They will be limited for use in the CBD and if riders try to go beyond those boundaries, the scooters slow to a stop.
They are also banned from the Rundle Mall shopping strip.
