Two miners have been killed in a cave-in at a mine in the Atacama desert region of northern Chile.
The incident occurred Tuesday night at the Paraiso mine, the regional director of the Office of National Emergencies told AFP.
Local press reports said the body of one of the men was recovered Wednesday morning, but firefighters and police were still trying to unearth the second body.
The cause of the collapse was under investigation by the Atacama prosecutors office.
Last year, 24 miners were killed in accidents in Chile, the world's top producer of copper.
High copper prices have led to a proliferation of small mines with weaker safety procedures.
