Two men die in SA plane crash

Two men have died in a light plane crash at Krondorf in SA's Barossa Valley,

Two men died when their plane crashed in a paddock between two wineries in South Australia's Barossa Valley.

The light plane crashed at Krondorf, between Villa Tinto winery and Rockford Wines, around 8am on Thursday.

Chief Inspector Alex Zimmermann says police have found the bodies of the men who were in the two-seater plane.

He said the pilot was a 44-year-old man from Cockatoo Valley and the passenger a 52-year-old man from Glenelg East.

"We have located some wreckage about one kilometre east of our location, of the aircraft," he told reporters.

"The aircraft came down between two wineries. Fortunately it did not crash into any of those buildings.

"There were workers at one of the wineries that called us and they were first on the scene."

Tim O'Callaghan, who was camping in the area, told ABC Radio he heard the crash.

"It sounded like crop dusting, that was my first thought, just the loud roar of engines and then the crash," he said.

"I went up to have a look and saw a wing sticking out of the paddock.

"(I saw) just a plane embedded into the ground and it was all compacted right up like a tin small can so it sort of looked like a heavy impact."

Barossa local David Landner said the crash had shaken him up as he had previously flown in the plane.

"It was a beautiful aircraft to fly and I had no trouble with it whatsoever," he told the ABC.

"It might be people I know and that's what worries me at the moment."
