Two men die, kids injured in Sydney crash

Two men have died and four people, including two four-year-old girls, have been injured in an "absolutely devastating" car accident in Sydney.

Two men have died and four people, including two children, have been injured in a "high impact" eight-vehicle smash in Sydney, which left "debris and devastation" over several hundred metres.

Seven cars and a truck were involved in the accident on Mary Street near the intersection of Concord Road in Rhodes, with police investigating alcohol and speed as factors.

Two men, who were in separate cars, were killed in the collision, which happened just before 11am (AEDT) on Monday.

Two four-year-old girls in separate cars were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A 38-year-old man who had to be freed from the wreckage was taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition, said NSW Ambulance, while a 40-year-old man and a child went to Ryde Hospital with minor injuries.

Detective Inspector Adam Powderly described the scene, which spread over a few hundred metres, as "absolutely devastating".

"It's quite horrific," he said.

"It was obviously a high impact, which has left a large amount of debris and devastation."

Det Insp Powderly said the accident was especially distressing on the first day back from the Christmas period, with double demerits ending at midnight on Sunday night.

"Now is not a time to become complacent with your driving on the roads," he said.
