Two men who impersonated police officers during a house break-in in Sydney's south west last week are being sought by investigators who believe they may have committed similar offences.

The pair, dressed like police officers and carrying a fraudulent badge and search warrant, banged on the front door of a Welling Drive home in Mt Annan and called out, "police", about 11.30pm on May 19.

A 66-year-old woman washing the dishes at the time let them in and they proceeded to search the house, waking two men, aged 40 and 68.

The intruders stole an amount of cash and jewellery, telling the occupants they would send a receipt for the items, police say.

The offenders then searched two vehicles in the garage of the home before leaving.

The two are described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in their mid-20s, having slim builds and wearing blue pants and blue shirts that may have had a logo on them.

Investigators are examining links between the incident and a similar offence that occurred in the early hours of the following morning and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
