Two Metre Peter wins AFL nod

Gold Coast key forward Peter Wright is the latest Rising Star nominee after the first win of his AFL career.

The Gold Coast key forward dubbed "Two Meter Peter" is the AFL's latest Rising Star nominee.

Peter Wright starred in Saturday's upset win over St Kilda with three goals and 10 marks.

It was also the first win of his 12-game AFL career.

The 203cm tall utility mainly plays as a key forward alongside Tom Lynch and Sam Day.

But he is also No.1 for hitouts among players eligible for the Rising Star.

The 19-year-old was a first-round draft pick, with Gold Coast recruiting him from the Calder Cannons at No.8 in the 2014 national draft.

Suns coach Rodney Eade said as a key position player, Wright would need time to realise his full potential.

"(He) will be an even better player at 23 and older," Eade said.

"While he fully understands that as a second year player there are no added expectations on him, he has set out to really maximise his opportunities and perform to the best of his ability at the top level.

"We are really delighted at the type of player he is becoming.
