Two pedestrians die in Victoria

A man aged in his 20s and another in his 50s have died after being hit by cars in Victoria.

A man has died after being struck by a car in the central Victorian town of Heathcote.

Police say the man, believed to be aged in his 20s, was reportedly struck by a Ford Falcon on Hospital Street at about 6.40pm on Thursday and died at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 46-year-old woman from Thomastown, is assisting police with their inquiries.

The death follows that of another pedestrian in Melbourne's west on Wednesday night.

The man aged in his 50s was crossing Ballarat Road at Ardeer, when he was hit just before 7.30pm and died at the scene, police say.

The driver of the car, who was not injured, stopped, police said.

The deaths take the state's road toll to 99, compared to 90 at the same time last year.
