Two protesters arrested at Villawood

A sit-in at Sydney's Villawood Detention Centre has resulted in two arrests, according to protesters.

Protesters say police have made two arrests following a sit-in at Sydney's Villawood Detention Centre.

Up to 30 people protesting the transference of asylum seekers to more remote detention centres were given a move-on notice by police around 7am.

Around 10 protesters staged a sit-in and two were arrested as they attempted to stop around a dozen asylum seekers leaving the centre via bus, spokeswoman Sonia Feng told AAP.

The protesters had been blocking the centre's entrance after receiving information 65 people would be transferred to Yongah Hill in Western Australia on Wednesday.

Ms Feng told AAP the protesters thought transferring asylum seekers to regional and remote detention centres was a government ploy to remove them from public debate.

"Even though asylum seekers are being forcibly transferred and they're out of sight, they're not out of mind," Ms Feng told AAP.

Police later confirmed the arrests and said the protesters had been released pending further inquiries.
