Two small Qld towns in path of bushfire

The QFES has warned residents of two small towns in Queensland's far north to prepare to leave as firefighters battle a dangerous, fast-moving bushfire.

Residents of two small towns in Brisbane's far north have been warned they must be prepared to leave as a dangerous bushfire heads towards their area.

The blaze is currently travelling towards the communities of Herberton and Watsonville from Specimen Hill and is likely to affect Walsh River Road and Zaicz Road.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has advised that conditions could get worse, adding that it may not be able to protect every property.

It follows an earlier warning of another fast-moving fire travelling in an easterly direction from the Brisbane Valley Highway and Angledale Lane towards the town of Toogoolawah, northwest of Brisbane.

The Brisbane Valley Highway was closed between Esk and the town, with residents told by QFES on Thursday afternoon that power, water and mobile phone coverage may be cut.
