Two Vic toddlers die in driveways in month

The death of an 18-month-old boy run over in the driveway of a rural Victorian property comes three weeks after a similar incident killed a three-year-old boy.

A Victorian family is grieving the loss of their 18-month-old boy after he was run over and killed by a reversing car in the tiny Victorian town of Waubra.

A man in his 30s, reportedly the boy's father, was behind the wheel.

Paramedics were called but "unfortunately the boy died at the scene," a police spokesman said in a statement.

The tragedy comes less than three weeks after a similar incident claimed the life of a three-year-old boy in Robinvale near the Victoria-NSW border.

Kidsafe Victoria says an average of seven children aged under 15 are killed nationally each year in driveway collisions.

Another 60 are seriously injured.

The driver is usually a parent, relative or family friend, Kidsafe says.

Ballarat police told Fairfax Media the man involved in the Waubra incident was the boy's father.
