Two-week ban for Franks

Crusaders prop Owen Franks has received a two-week ban for striking Highlanders prop Josh Hohneck early in their second-round Super Rugby match.

Crusaders and All Blacks prop Owen Franks has been banned for two weeks after pleading guilty to striking the Highlanders' Josh Hohneck, but will miss only one Super Rugby match.

The incident happened in the 10th minute of Saturday's round two match in Dunedin, won 26-20 by the Crusaders.

SANZAR duty judicial officer Robert Stelzner says while Franks's offending wasn't intentional, it was reckless as he attempted to clear Hohneck from the wrong side of a maul.

Franks will miss the Crusaders' round three match against the Chiefs in Hamilton on Saturday, which is followed by a bye.

But Stelzner said he accepted Franks was scheduled to play for the Crusaders' development team that week, and said it would be included in the suspension period.

Franks will be available for the Crusaders' fifth round match against the Lions in Christchurch on March 14.
