Two-week rugby ban for Blues lock Barrett

Blues lock Kane Barrett will serve out a two-week suspension for rucking in the Super Rugby match against the Chiefs.

Blues lock Kane Barrett has been banned for two weeks after pleading guilty to two charges of stamping in Saturday's Super Rugby match against the Chiefs in Auckland.

Barrett was red-carded by referee Chris Pollock for trampling on Craig Clarke in the 22nd minute of the match won 26-16 by the Chiefs, but was also cited for stamping on prop Ben Tameifuna in a separate incident two minutes earlier.

SANZAR judicial officer Nicholas Davidson initially imposed a three-week suspension, but this was reduced by a week because of Barrett's good disciplinary record and acceptance of the charges.

Barrett, who will captain Taranaki in this year's national provincial championships, will be available when the competition begins on August 15.
