Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy will spend the next fortnight in a neck brace.
Grundy was hospitalised last Friday after a training mishap, but on Monday the 21-year-old was back doing modified gym work at the AFL club.
"There's a bit of compression from the top of my head and the spinal cord kind of buckled a little bit so the ligament tore and there is some haematoma around there," Grundy told the club website.
"So I stayed overnight (in hospital) in case it got worse and I couldn't breathe."
Grundy was thrilled that didn't eventuate.
"I thought it was a little bit over the top when it was happening (being taken off the field on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance), but I'm very thankful that ... they followed (the protocol)," he said.
"I'm very fortunate that it wasn't anything worse.
"Count your blessings ... life's bigger than footy. I'm going home today and appreciating the little things."
Collingwood have the bye this weekend, then face Fremantle in Perth the following Thursday.
