Two witnesses fail to show at NSW inquest

A warrant has been issued for the second witness who failed to appear at a NSW inquest on Tuesday.

Arrest warrants have been issued for two people seen leaving the apartment of wealthy French businessman David Monlun on the final night of his life.

Mr Monlun's girlfriend Sarah Manning and Jamie Philp had both been due to appear as witnesses at Mr Monlun's inquest on Tuesday.

Following their no-shows and with authorities unable to track them down, Deputy State Coroner Sharon Freund issued warrants for their arrests.

The inquest has heard that CCTV footage shows Ms Manning leaving his apartment several times before coming back with Mr Philp - a long-term user of GHB.

After saying goodbye to the pair around 3.20am, Mr Monlun can be seen to deteriorate, dropping a phone and being unsteady on his feet.

He was found lying face down in his apartment near Sydney's Darling Harbour on May 30, 2011 about 11 years after he and Ms Manning began what the court heard was a "highly sexual", "volatile" and intermittent relationship.

Their relationship often involved the regular use of drugs, such as GHB and "ice".

A lethal range of GHB was detected in Mr Monlun's system and an autopsy has revealed he died as a result of mixed drug toxicity.

Ms Freund said Mr Philp was well aware he needed to be at court.

"He was in attendance yesterday," she said.

The inquiry continues.
