Two world record at world relays

Australia have finished third in the women's 4x1500m at the inaugural world relays meet in the Bahamas.

Zoe Buckman has propelled Australia to a bronze medal behind a world-breaking Kenyan team in the women's 4x1500m at the inaugural world relays meet.

In front of a near-capacity crowd at the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium in Nassau, the quartet of Buckman, Bridey Delaney, Brittany McGowan and Melissa Duncan claimed a podium berth with their time of 17 minutes 08.65 seconds - bettering the national record in the rarely-contested event.

Kenya (16:33.58) and the United states (16:55.33) both went under the previous world record.

Buckman, who was seventh in the 1500m at last year's world championships in Moscow, produced a great first leg to finish only a stride behind Kenyan Mercy Cherono.

Buckman was bumped to the ground by the incoming American runner at the changeover, but was still able to get the baton to Delaney.

The Australian quartet of Joshua Ralph, Ryan Gregson, Jordan Willamsz and Jared West clocked 7:11.48 to finish fourth in the men's 4x800m, slashing more than eight seconds off the national record.

Kenya took the gold in 7:08.40.

The second world record of the night was set by a Jamaican team anchored by 2011 world 100m champion Yohan Blake in the men's 4x200m.

Snatching the baton from Jermaine Brown, the world's second-fastest man made the most of a rolling start to accelerate around the bend and fly down the home stretch.

The Jamaicans clocked 1:18.63, beating the previous world record set by the United States in 1994, by five hundredths of a second.

"We all executed what the coach told us to do, and we knew that the world record could happen," said Blake.

St Kitts and Nevis took silver in 1:20.51, with France claiming bronze in an European record of 1:20.66 after the US team were disqualified.
