Two-year dope ban for ski champ Orlovskaya

Russian champion skier Anna Orlovskaya will miss the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi after being banned for two years for a doping offence.

Russia's freestyle skiing federation has banned national champion Anna Orlovskaya for two years for a doping offence, the official site of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) said.

The RUSADA statement did not specify the details of Orlovskaya's violation, labelling it as "a breach of anti-doping rules".

The ban on 18-year-old Orlovskaya, who won national titles in slopestyle and ski halfpipe last year, came into effect on November 19.

It means Orlovskaya will miss the 2014 Winter Olympics, dealing a serious blow to Russian sports officials ahead of the Sochi Games.

Last month, International Olympic Committee head Thomas Bach issued a warning that "a positive drugs test would overshadow the achievement of any team at Sochi 2014".

The Olympic supremo also promised that the anti-doping program at Sochi would be the toughest in history.
