Surfers have returned to the waves at the Rio Women's Pro on what was a successful day for the Australian contingent.
Organisers on Friday were quick to call 'game on' after a lay day on Thursday due to small and inconsistent surf.
Australia's defending world champion Tyler Wright had the highest-scoring wave on the day.
Coming up against Brazilian teenage qualifier Taina Hinckel, she quickly turned in a lesson the 14-year-old is unlikely to forget any time soon.
Wright backed up her opening 8.33 with a stunning 9.67 on her second wave for an easy second-round heat win.
Earlier, Australia's Laura Enever handled the pressure well to win her heat on her last wave with a 6.60 over Hawaii's Tatiana Weston-Webb.
"Tatiana's such a strong competitor, it's inspiring how strong she is," Enever said.
"I had no idea what I needed (to win the heat), I just wanted to get my groove back and move on from here."
In the next heat Nikki van Dijk (15.54) prevailed in an all-Australian duel with Bronte Macaulay.
Keely Andrew accounted for another Brazilian in two-time world tour runner-up Silvana Lima.
"It was very interesting (facing Silva in front of a partisan crowd)," Andrew said.
"I couldn't help cracking a smile.
"You don't really see the current until you're out there and feel it yourself. It's what you train for.
"The pressure of round two really sucks. I find myself in round two a lot."
