UEFA donates 2m euros to child migrants

Europe's football union is using its UEFA Foundation for Children to donate $3 million to help child refugees.

Europe's football union UEFA is donating two million euros ($A3.18 million) for child refugees through its UEFA Foundation for Children.

"There has been a human tragedy these last weeks with the plight of the migrants in Europe, and football, and UEFA, has to act and do something," UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino said on Friday.

"This (donation) is to try and help, in a concrete way, children who are living through very sad days."

Infantino said specific projects will be announced "in due course" and added: "We hope that we can help the lives of children with this gesture, and that football can contribute to giving hope and joy to them."

The UEFA foundation was launched in April with the aim of offering support to children in various areas from health and education to access to sport.

The donation is the latest in a series of international and domestic efforts by the football and sports community to help migrants in the difficult present situation.
