UK bookies take in STG55,000 on baby name

William Hill says punters have spent more than STG55,000 in bets on the name of the royal baby since the birth was announced.

British bookmaker William Hill says it has taken more than STG55,000 ($A106,820) in new bets on the name of the royal baby in the first three hours since the birth was announced.

Alice (2/1) has taken back the top spot from Charlotte (5/2), with Victoria also "very busy" at 9/2.

"We are as busy, if not busier, than we were in the first few hours after George was born," a William Hill spokesman said.

"Alice and Charlotte are still the favourites but keep an eye out for Rose and Grace."
