UK terror threat level raised to critical

British Prime Minister Theresa May has again raised the national terror threat level to critical, meaning another attack is expected imminently.

Prime Minister Theresa May has again raised the British national terror threat level to critical, meaning another attack may be imminent.

A bomb was detonated on a packed commuter train in London on Friday morning, injuring 29 people.

May said in a televised statement that armed police and members of the military would be seen on the streets in the coming days.

"For this period, military personnel will replace police officers on guard duties at certain protected sites that are not accessible to the public," she said.

The threat level was last raised to 'critical' following the Manchester Arena bombing in May, when 23 people, including the attacker, were killed as they exited a concert by US popstar Ariana Grande.

The news came as the Islamic State terror group has claimed responsibility for Friday's incident.

Police continue to hunt for the suspect who planted the improvised bucket bomb on the District Line service at Parsons Green station in west London.

The militant group's Amaq news agency has claimed it was behind the attack, according to the US-based Site Intelligence.
