UN aims to eradicate statelessness by 2024

At least three million people around the world are stateless, but the United Nations says the figure could actually be more than 10 million.

At least three million people around the world are stateless, but the United Nations says the figure could actually be more than 10 million.

The UN refugee agency has hosted the first global forum on statelessness in The Netherlands, with hopes of eradicating it over the next decade.

The Refugee Council of Australia says Australia has ignored UN calls for statelessness to be ended, despite signing two conventions on the subject.

Council head Paul Power spoke to Adeshola Ore and began by explaining just what the term 'statelessness' actually means.
