Uncapped duo called into women's ODI squad

Australia have called in uncapped Amanda Wellington and Tahlia McGrath for the final two matches of their women's cricket ODI series against South Africa.

Uncapped Amanda Wellington and Tahlia McGrath have bolstered a wounded Australian women's ODI cricket squad for the last two matches of their series against South Africa.

Spinner Kristen Beams is awaiting a medical assessment.after fracturing a finger late in Wednesday's third game of the series, which Australia won to take an unassailable 3-0 lead.

Star allrounder Ellyse Perry missed Wednesday's match, Australia's ninth straight ODI victory, with a groin issue but is expected to be fit for the final two games of the series in Coffs Harbour next Sunday and Tuesday.

Legspinner Wellington and allrounder McGrath were members of the 2016-17 Shooting Stars development squad and last season's WNCL-winning SA Scorpions side.

They have impressed in this season's competition and also for the Governor-General's XI against South Africa.

All-rounder McGrath scored 30 and took 2-34, while Wellington claimed 2-25 from nine overs.

"We believe both of the girls have a big future and look forward to seeing them take their opportunities," national selector, Shawn Flegler said.

Fast bowler Holly Ferling, who went wicketless in the first two games and wasn't picked for the third, has been left out of the squad.

She will return to Queensland to prepare for their December 3 WNCL Final against New South Wales.
