Uncapped quintet in Scotland WC squad

Scotland have named their provisional squad for next year's cricket World Cup, and it includes a quintet of uncapped youngsters.

Scotland have included five uncapped players in their provisional squad for next year's cricket World Cup.

Cricket Scotland named a 24-man group on Tuesday, which must be trimmed to 15 for the tournament in Australia and New Zealand in February.

As expected, Preston Mommsen will continue as captain with predecessor Kyle Coetzer as his deputy.

Of the uncapped members, teenagers Gavin Main, Andrew Umeed and Mark Watt have never even played a List A match, and they are joined by fellow newcomers George Munsey and Ruaidhri Smith.

Coetzer is one of five contracted county players, lining up alongside Durham's Calum MacLeod, Leicestershire's Rob Taylor, Sussex's Matt Machan and Somerset's Josh Davey.

Scotland are coached by New Zealander Grant Bradburn and England's most-capped ODI international Paul Collingwood as they attempt to upset the odds in a pool that also features Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

"We're over the moon with the group we're in," Coetzer said.

"As well as England, we play the two host nations which should make for big crowds and a great atmosphere.

"We've got our goals of trying to take down at least one of the Test-playing nations because that's something we haven't ever done as an associate, but obviously playing against England will be a bit special."

Provisional squad: P Mommsen (c), K Coetzer (vc), R Berrington, F Coleman, M Cross, J Davey, A Evans, H Gardiner, G Goudie, M Haq, M Iqbal, M Leask, M Machan, C MacLeod, G Main, G Munsey, D Murphy, S Sharif, R Smith, R Taylor, A Umeed, C Wallace, I Wardlaw, M Watt.
