Under-fire De Boer on the brink at Palace

Newcastle and Burnley have moved into the top half of the Premier League after beating Swansea and Crystal Palace respectively.

Newcastle United and Burnley have moved into the top half of the Premier League after 1-0 wins over Swansea and Crystal Palace.

Despite being outshot by a 23-4 margin, the Clarets did enough to pick up their second win.

Palace are also still searching for a first goal and post-match reports claimed de Boer's future will be decided by club officials over the next 48 hours - less than three months after his appointment.

"Palace were the better side today, we didn't get into our stride at all," Burnley manager Sean Dyche said. "They played well throughout the game. Sometimes it's just not your day."

Scott Dann had two shots cleared off the line and also missed a point-blank header for Palace.

"I cannot believe we lost, there is still frustration about the result but not about our performance," said de Boer.

"The only thing we didn't do was score."

Jamaal Lascalles scored after preventing a goal to give Newcastle a second successive win while All Whites striker Chris Wood took advantage of a defensive miscue to send Burnley past winless Palace.

The wins lift Burnley up to seventh place with promoted Newcastle now 10th.

"The boys were excellent today," Lascalles told the BBC.

"We knew it would be a tough game. These are the teams we need to beat. They are a good side but we were the better team on the day."

Lascalles was the hero at both ends of the Liberty Stadium as Newcastle won without manager Rafael Benitez, who continues to recover from recent surgery.

He first cleared Tammy Abraham's shot off the line then headed home Matt Ritchie's corner in the 76th minute to give the Magpies a second straight win.

"These are the games you have to win," Ritchie said. "The aim is to stay in the league and it is a massive three points."

Swansea have lost both of their home games and fall to 15th place.

"Although the margin of the defeat is small, I'm really disappointed with our performance," Swans manager Paul Clement said.

"I'm really not satisfied with the way we played."

Wood scored the only goal at Burnley by pouncing on Lee Chung Yong's woefully underhit backpass and beating onrushing goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

West Ham look for their first win when they host promoted Huddersfield Town on Monday.
