Laws to deregulate university fees will be brought back to parliament this year, Education Minister Christopher Pyne says.

Labor, Greens and Senate crossbenchers have blocked the government's attempt to allow universities to charge higher fees, but Mr Pyne will take a second shot at it.

"We will do that this year. The government is deeply committed to the higher education reforms - they are too important not to be proceeded with," Mr Pyne told reporters in Adelaide on Friday.
