UNICEF Afghanistan has downplayed the risks of an outbreak of polio, following the case of a girl who contracted the disease in the capital Kabul.

An emergency polio vaccination campaign has however been launched following the city's first case since the Taliban were ousted in 2001.

The three-year-old from a nomadic family living on the northeastern edge of the city, was diagnosed after being admitted to hospital in neighbouring Pakistan.

Akhil Iyer is from UNICEF Afghanistan.

He's told Zara Zaher that despite this recent case, Afghanistan is on a successful path to eradicate polio.
