Uniformed police officers will join in Brisbane's Pride Festival March for the first time on Saturday.

This year's event, which also has Deputy Premier Jackie Trad and Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk marching, will kick off at 10am and run along Brunswick St between Ann and McLachlan Streets.

LGBTI liaison officer Senior Sergeant Gai Bolderrow says having personnel marching in uniform was an important display of support.

"It shows our support for community members who identify with the LGBTI community," she said.

"(And) it also shows the QPS support for QPS officers and staff members who identify as LGBTI themselves."

She said there was a "buzz" among staff ahead of the colourful event.

Police Commissioner Ian Stewart also welcomed the move and said the force was committed to embracing diversity.

The very first Brisbane Pride March was held in June 1990.
