The Electrical Trades Union has vowed to fight a federal government push to abolish mandatory skills testing for Chinese electricians applying for temporary work visas in Australia.
As part of the free trade agreement with China, the federal government wants to drop a requirement for skills to be tested for 10 different occupations out of China, including electricians.
The government says evidence of skills and training will still be required before a 457 visa can be issued.
Kristina Kukolja asked the Union's Allen Hicks whether the statement offered any reassurance.
