Unions consider strikes at govt agencies

Union representatives for the tax office, CSIRO and several other government agencies are weighing options for the next stage of industrial action.

More industrial action could be on the cards at several government departments and agencies after delegates meet to discuss responses to proposed workplace conditions.

Representatives from government agencies, including the Australian Taxation Office, Bureau of Meteorology, Defence, CSIRO and Customs will meet in central Sydney on Friday.

"They are deciding on what's the next stages in our industrial action," a Community and Public Sector Union spokesman said.

No agreement has been reached in any of the 177 agencies affected, in which about 160,000 staff work.

Planed actions could range from one-hour work stoppages to full-day strikes.
