Unions reject parental leave changes

Trade union delegates have voted to condemn federal government changes to paid parental leave and work with business to oppose the move.

Trade unions have committed to work with business against the federal government's push to stop workers claiming paid parental leave from their employer and the taxpayer.

Delegates at the ACTU's triennial congress in Melbourne on Wednesday voted to condemn the measure announced in the budget, instead favouring 26 weeks leave at full pay.

"Unions and business have differing opinions on many issues but paid parental leave isn't one of them," president Ged Kearney said, ahead of expected talks in coming weeks over combating the move.
