US and Aust to swap immigration info

The United States and Australia have signed a deal to share immigration information to verify travellers' identities.

Australia and the United States will swap immigration information to help weed out suspect travellers.

US Ambassador John Berry signed a deal with Immigration Minister Scott Morrison and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop in Canberra on Wednesday.

Cooperation between the two nations will help confirm the identity of travellers or provide conflicting information to alert immigration authorities.

Information sharing with comply with privacy and legal provisions of both nations.
