US rapper Bada$$ charged with assault

A US rapper who performed at a Byron Bay music festival has been charged with punching a security guard who asked to see his credentials.

Bada$$ by name, Bada$$ by nature.

Such is the case of US rapper Joey Bada$$, who has allegedly assaulted a security guard at the Byron Bay Falls Festival in New South Wales.

The 19-year-old was making his way to the stage on Friday when he was stopped by a 20-year-old security guard who asked to check identification.

Bada$$ allegedly punched the guard in the face, breaking his nose, before heading to the stage for his set.

Police were waiting for the rapper when he finished his performance and arrested him.

Bada$$, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The 19-year-old appeared in Lismore Bail Court on Saturday, where he was granted bail ahead of another court appearance scheduled for March 19.

Bada$$ is preparing to release his debut album B4.DA.$$.
