US rapper Joey Bada$$ charged for punching music festival security guard

US rapper Joey Bada$$ has been charged for allegedly punching a security guard at Falls Festival near Byron Bay in New South Wales.

The 19-year-old rapper was about to perform on stage on Friday, January 2, when he was stopped by a security guard.

It is alleged the rapper, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Jalani Virginie, punched the guard for checking the musician's credentials. 

Paramedics treated the guard for a broken nose and other facial injuries.

Bada$$ was arrested after his performance and taken to Byron Bay police station and charged with assault occassioning actual bodily harm.

He appeared at Lismore Bail Court on Saturday, January 3. He was granted bail and ordered to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on March 19.
