US seeks to make public Dotcom documents

Lawyers representing the US government are in a New Zealand court arguing for suppression to be lifted on documents relating to Kim Dotcom.

US prosecutors are in a New Zealand court applying to lift suppression orders on documents relating to Kim Dotcom's extradition case.

Lawyers representing the US government appeared in Auckland District Court on Thursday and argued suppression on publishing documents to do with Dotcom's case should be lifted.

The record of case is currently suppressed although the US government released a summary of evidence in December.

Dotcom's lawyer, Paul Davison QC, will argue that the release of the summary of evidence is in contempt of court.

Mr Davison will also argue that the case won't be ready for the July extradition hearing.

"We're under pressure to get a lot of things done by the 7th of July," Mr Davison told the court.

The internet entrepreneur sat in the public gallery of the court checking his phone while the hearing took place.

The Megaupload founder is fighting extradition to the US where he is facing internet piracy charges.
