Venus eases through to HK second round

Venus Williams shrugged off a slow start to beat Japan's Risa Ozaki in straight sets to book her place in the second round of the Hong Kong Open.

Australia's Daria Gavrilova has taken just over an hour to book her place in the second round of the Hong Kong Open.

The Russian-born Melbourne-based world No 38 brushed aside China's Lin Zhu 6-0 6-2 in 67 minutes and set up a clash with Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Rpeublic.

Venus Williams brushed aside Japan's Risa Ozaki in straight sets to advance to the second round.

The 36-year-old was broken in the opening game of the match against the world No.117 and would lose her serve again before wrapping up the opening set.

Williams had fewer problems in the second set, racing into a 3-0 advantage and holding out comfortably for a 6-4 6-1 win in one hour and 13 minutes.
