Vic $55m lotto winner a mystery a week on

A mystery $55 million lotto winner has been urged to come forward to claim their prize one week after their lucky numbers were drawn.

The winner of a $55 million lottery ticket sold in Melbourne remains a mystery one week after their lucky numbers were drawn.

The unsuspecting multi-millionaire picked all six lucky Powerball jackpot numbers - 32, 7, 5, 34, 38, 11 and 12, as well as the all-important 'Powerball,' which was 12 - to become the third-highest single lottery winner in Australia on January 11.

The unregistered ticket was sold by Scole Lotto and News at Brunswick, in Melbourne's inner north.

Owner Sam Misiano says he's "extremely excited" to have sold the winner and wants the person to "come forward and put me out of my misery".

"We have a lot of people just come in off the streets and buy and we have a lot of customers who buy and work overseas but they're from Brunswick initially," he told reporters outside his store on Thursday.

"It could be absolutely anybody.

"Something like this is just out of this world. And to win $1 million let along 55 of them, it's amazing, it will change your life, change your family's life forever."

Tatts spokeswoman Bronnie Spencer said it was unusual for a winner of this amount not to come forward after a week.

But she added some people found tickets in their pockets months after their numbers were drawn.

If the money isn't claimed after six months, it will go to Victoria's State Revenue Office, but the ticket owner can still come forward and take their winnings.
