Vic Alcoa smelter completes restart

A struggling Alcoa aluminium smelter in regional Victoria has completed its restart, 10 months after a power outage damaged equipment and reduced capacity.

Victoria's struggling Alcoa aluminium smelter has finally been restored to full capacity after a power outage 10 months ago severely damaged equipment.

Premier Daniel Andrews was in Portland on Thursday to celebrate the completion of the smelter restart after damage from the blackout brought the smelter close to closing.

The state and federal governments made a $230 million funding deal with Alcoa earlier this year to keep the smelter open and restart operations.
