A woman who admitted trying to kill Melbourne mother Maria Korp has been released on parole after spending nine years in prison.
Ms Korp, 50, was choked unconscious and left for dead in the boot of her car by her husband's lover Tania Herman in February 2005.
Herman, 47, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced in July 2005 to 12 years in jail with a non-parole period of nine years.
Ms Korp died in hospital the following month.
Herman walked out of Tarrengower Prison on Friday morning after being granted parole at the earliest opportunity.
A parole board spokeswoman said Herman's parole was the result of a hearing last month, and the approval was not made automatically.
"In making that decision, the board's paramount consideration is the safety and security of the community," she said.
"While on parole, Ms Herman will be under the supervision of Community Correctional Services and will be subject to a range of conditions."
Ms Korp's husband Joe was also charged with attempted murder but committed suicide on the day of her funeral.
A coroner later found that he had contributed to his wife's death.
