A man accused of murdering a Melbourne couple in their home has briefly appeared in court.

A young man accused of murdering a couple in their Melbourne home has appeared in court.

Robert Adamson, 65, and his wife Cheryl, 60, were found dead last week in the back of their Murrumbeena home of 40 years.

Thomas James Hemming, 21, also of Murrumbeena, was charged with the couple's murder at the weekend.

Hemming faced a brief filing hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

He made no application for bail and was remanded to appear at a committal mention on June 13.

Mr Adamson was an accountant and his wife the senior teacher librarian at Melbourne Grammar School's primary school, Grimwade House.

Ms Adamson's colleagues discovered the bodies in the couple's home in a quiet cul-de-sac when she failed to show up for work.
