Vic drone crash leads to chilly rescue

A man who jumped into icy waters off St Kilda pier to try and grab his downed drone has been rescued after he began cramping up from the cold.

A man has been rescued after a late night dive off St Kilda pier, to save his fallen drone, left him so cold he couldn't climb out of the water.

Around 2.45am police were called to rescue a 22-year-old man who had stripped-off and dived in after his drone which had plunged into the bay.

The man got cramps due to the icy water and couldn't climb back onto the pier.

A passer-by and the man's friend managed to cobble together a makeshift rope out of clothing which he held onto until police rescued him.

He was taken to hospital suffering from the cold while his drone remains lost in the bay.
